Calciboost Liquid
Regular price $12.60 Save $-12.60Calcium deficiencies can lead to egg binding, feather plucking, increased nervousness and death. Calciboost provides the needed calcium, Magnesium and D3 in an easily absorbed form.
Application: In water (10-20 mls per liter) or on soft-food 0.1-0.2 mls per 100g bodyweight. Use the lower doses in hard water areas.
Active ingredients: Magnesium, Vitamin D3, Calcium.
Calciboost is used for feather plucking along with 2 other items, Feather Up and Potent Brew. With these 3 items we can stop the feather plucking and start seeing results in 3 to 4 weeks. Feather picking and other similar forms of self mutilation are major problems. Although most have nutritional problems as their origin there are some medical conditions that can be implicated so veterinary testing may be required. The most common cause of self mutilation appears to be calcium deficiency. This is why we use the Calciboost. As research tells us that 98% of pet birds are getting less than the recommended levels of calcium in their diet it is actually surprising that there is not more cases of this distressing condition. You have to stop and think, you do not see birds in the wild flying around with no feathers. Why, because they can get the high calcium foods that they need.
Calcium is involved in both nerve and muscle function. Calcium deficient birds often show nervous behavior such as fear, aggression and self mutilation. So for the most important recommendation is to add Calciboost to the diet. The important thing about Calciboost is that the calcium it contains is very easily absorbed from the gut into the blood stream.
We have the 3 products that we use to stop feather plucking and we have a 99% success rate with these. It is very important that you give them these 3 products 5 days out of 7 for a total of 4 weeks, after that you should keep them on this for 2 days a week for the rest of the life of the bird so that this does not happen again. In a very few cases have we had to give it for 5 days a week for 8 weeks. The one most important thing is to see that the bird consumes the Calciboost that is given.
Calciboost
Normal dose rates for Calciboost are as follows
Parakeets 2 drops Cockatiels 4 drops African Greys 15 drops Large Macaws 30 drops
Feather Up
Parakeets small Pinch Cockatiels small pinch African Greys 2 pinches Macaws 4-5 pinches
Potent Brew
Parakeet 2 drops Cockatiel 4 drops African Greys 15 drops Cockatoos 10-20 drops Macaws 30 drops
Increase the Calcium intake with Calciboost for your breeder birds
During non-breeding seasons, Calciboost should be administered 1-2 times per week. How ever during breeding season, it is essential to increase the Calciboost dosage to 3-5 times a week for 4 weeks to provide the extra calcium needed for egg laying and chick growth. Remember a lack of calcium can cause thin shelled eggs, egg binding, smaller clutch size, poor bone formation and splay legs in chicks. If egg binding occurs put a few drops of Calciboost in the beak and put the bird under heat, the egg should pass in a few hours.
Birds can also loose balance do to the lack of calcium. Again this is why we use the Calciboost. You should start the bird on the Calciboost 5 days a week for 4 weeks, this should get the calcium level up in the bird and you should start seeing a difference. Many people seem to think that giving a cuttlebone is enough calcium, it is not, we find using the liquid calcium absorbs quickly into the system. Every bird should be on Calciboost. Using one of our Daily Essential vitamins, Calciboost, and Saniclens in the water you will be giving the daily supplements needed for a healthy bird.
